Reflections

Look into my eyes,
And tell me what you see.
Play my mirror,
And tell me what I used to know.
Do my eyes still change,
A hazel chameleon,
Envious of all that surrounds them?
Tell me,
Because I haven’t seen them in so long.

Look into your eyes,
And tell me what you see.
Play my mirror,
And tell me things I’ve never known.
Is the brown like rich milk chocolate,
Or calicoed and deep,
Like the bark of a forest pine?
Tell me,
And complete the partial picture in my mind.

When our child is born…

Look into her eyes,
And tell me what you see.
Play her mirror,
And tell me things I will never know.
Is there a part of me? A poet? A writer?
Do her eyes open wide to take in wisdom,
And welcome her cheeks when she giggles?
Tell me,
That no one will ever have to play her mirror.
That is all I need to know.
