"Learning How To See"

A digital photography workshop
Presented by Roger "Mzungu" Moore
Studio 105 -- Dallas, TX

For those of you who, for some reason, have not 'experienced the adventure' with me on one of my safaris, you now have the opportunity to learn how to see through the eyes of an artist, by attending this 2-day workshop in Dallas, TX.

Learning to See through the Eyes of an Artist

Without my knowing it, my mother warped my mind!   She was an artist (Certified Copyist at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC).   Beginning in my early childhood, she surreptitiously caused me to see through the eyes of an artist without my realizing it.   Later in life, as I became more deeply involved in photography, I began to realize that my view of the world was somehow “different” .   Now I have come to believe that my success as a photographer is tied irrevocably to this way of "seeing the world”.   I love to sharing the joy of learning how to see with other photographers.

Workshop Schedule

First Day - Saturday, February 23:     9:00 AM to Noon  - Meet at My Studio 105 in the South Side on Lamar (SSOL).*    Throughout the morning, we will be discussing exactly what it means to be seeing though the eyes of an artist.   Lots of examples and discussion.

  • 12 noon - Lunch (cost included)

  • After lunch - Shoot till you drop at SSOL.*    I will begin with a live demonstration, then throughout the day I will be working one-on-one with students.  SSOL is a photographically rich environment, and you are free select the photographs you want to make (bring your model if you wish to use live models).  Whatever your interest, I will work with you to help you learn to make better photographs.

  • Homework - You will choose your favorite images from today's shoot and prepare them for presentation and critique the morning of the second day.

Second Day -  Sunday, March 2

  • 9:00 AM - We begin at Studio 105 again.    Each student delivers his or her favorite image files to me for inclusion in our slide show, which will serve as the basis for our critique and review of the first day's work.  Each image will be discussed.  This is always a highlight of the workshop - a powerful learning experience and everyone loves it.

  • 12 noon - Lunch

  • After lunch - Once again - shoot till you drop, this time at Fair Park.  Put to practice what you have just learned.  Again I will be available to work one-on-one to help you make even greater photographs.

*South Side is a loft style residence with artist studios in the old Sears distribution center south of downtown Dallas.  Inside and out, it has architectural details galore, lighting to die for, a fantastic roof top view including downtown, and loads of atmospheric backdrops for models and still lives.

 Testimonials

I attended Roger Moore's two-day workshop on digital photography on 3/4 June 2006.  Roger is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the subject and is able to impart his knowledge to students in a way that turns a sometimes technical subject into a pleasurable learning experience.  I began the workshop with a small point and shoot digital camera and was so inspired by him that I now own a digital SLR and am determined to pursue the "art of Photography" seriously.  I recommend his workshops to the "raw" beginner (pun intended) as well as the experienced.  All will benefit.  Dennis P McMahon

Great, really enjoyed our laid back approach.  I think that the field trip and the use of the before and after photos to highlight the key ideas for composition and/or ideas for manipulation/modification, worked very well. Roger Kaye

I would definitely take another of your workshops.   I liked the fact that it was so easy to ask questions of you as a professional photographer and the patience of your explanations.  Within the varying experience of the students you were very good at sharing your knowledge in simplified terms.  Wendy Rutledge

I came to this seminar as a camera/photography virgin.   Two days later I leave as a semi-confident user of digital photography, thanks to Roger.  Roger was available at any time for questions and he unfailingly spent time with each person explaining the variations of their cameras and concerns  with their photography.  Betty Rice
